So the elephants are in charge now.  And here is their platform—whatever the dems are for, they are against it.  Kevin McCarthy, the new Speaker (at least for now) sold his soul to the radical far right in order to get the office.  He promised to load the committees with far righters, allow a single member to call for vacating his seat, and allow the judicial committee, which is chaired by Jim Jordan, to conduct an inquest into the mechanics of FBI and other agency oversight.  Oh, and by the way, hold down federal spending, but not on defense.  Whew!

it took 15 ballots for McCarthy to gain the Speakership.  With a razor thin elephant majority he will find it hard to govern.  But who says they want to govern?  All they want to do is be against something.  Like anything the donkeys are for.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.  With some very real issues coming forth—like appropriations (say goodbye to social security and Medicare), and putting the country’s financial condition at risk by not raising the debt ceiling, the we’re against it wing of the Republican Party has taken over.  God bless America!
