A sliver of a silver moon
Shone through my window
In December, not June
The Chinese, they say
Landed on the surface
And hauled some rocks away
A spokesperson, forsooth
Said it was all for science
And discovery of the truth
Rumor has it there is a race
On the moon they will land
And establish a base
They say they also want to discover
Whether or not
The moon holds water
One thing’s for certain
As certain as can be
On the moon there is no vast expanse of sea
Now the Chinese want to go down in history
As the people who learned the truth
And eliminated the moon’s mystery
Nonetheless the awe-struck poet
Will look at the moon, be inspired
And that’s the romantic truth of it
