Come senators, congressmen, please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway, don’t block up the hall

For he that gets hurt will be he who has stalled
The battle outside ragin’
Will soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times, they are a-changin’

–Bob Dylan

The news is that Bob Dylan has sold his entire songbook for an estimated $300 million.  Does he really need the money?  I doubt it.  He’s 79 years old.  He’d better have a solid will or his heirs will be tied up in probate for years.  Or maybe he’s going to buy a yacht and sail around the world.  Who knows?  What I want to know is if I sing his songs, of which I know many, or quote his verse if I have to pay a royalty to some conglomerate?  Think I’ll continue to bootleg it.

Donald Trump lost the presidential election but will not concede.  He says it was rigged and appeals to his base to send him money.  I hear he has raised about $250 million.  When they drag him out of the White House next month, he will need it—most likely in legal fees he will rack up as the state lawsuits and investigations drag on, even if he pardons himself from federal charges.  Or maybe he’ll salt it away for another White House run in 2024.  By then he’ll be 79, as old as Bob is now.  Or maybe he’ll start an alternative TV network, featuring himself as the reality star.  Who knows?  All I know is that Trump will be gone—at least for now—but Trumpism will remain.

Who are these radicals who hang on to the belief that the election was rigged, that the Democrats are devils who eat children, and who hang out at the homes of election officials with guns shouting obscenities?  They are the aggrieved who think that the East and West coast establishment, the Jewish cabal, and the liberal elites want to turn the country communist.  They wanted to make America great again, but see it fading now as they believe when the donkeys take over, they will trample their rights.  They are as mad as hell and won’t take it anymore.  In the meantime, don’t give me the facts, my mind is made up.

Speaking of senators and congressmen blocking up the hall:  if they don’t act to provide additional funding food bank lines will grow, the unemployed will be without money, renters will be evicted, and small business owners will go under.  A coalition of Republicans and Democrats are floating a more modest $906 billion package, but so far, no action.  Even if it passes congress who knows if the AWOL president will sign?  What a fine kettle of fish.  What will it take to shake windows and rattle walls?  Are the times really a-changin’?

  1. Will nearly 2,000 people dying per day ( a Pearl Harbor every day) shake the windows and rattle the doors? Oh, sorry I forgot he’s busy golfing.
