Where Does the Time Go?

“Oh, oh, well I want to know, where does the time go?”—Grateful Dead, Uncle John’s Band

“Hey everybody, let’s have some fun
You only live but once, and when you’re dead you’re done
So let the good times roll, let the good times roll
Don’t care if you’re young or old, get together let the good times roll”—Let the Good Times Roll written by Sam Theard

A leaf falls in the river, rides the ripples to the sea.  Or, maybe gets hung up in the bushes by the bank.  Some leaves make it to the sea.  Some get hung up.  Some get churned up and fall to the river bottom to lie in the mud.  Some lives make it to the sea, some don’t.  It takes time.

They say time started with the Big Bang, millions of years ago.  I’ve always wondered if there was time before time.  They say time is relative to the speed of light.  Could be.  I wouldn’t know.  Never gone that fast.   It has always seemed constant at the speed I live.  However, it does seem to speed up as I age.  Which begs the question:  where does the time go?  Answer:  it spins around with the earth and ends up in the same place 365 days later—366 for leap years.  So, every year we end up where we started, and time didn’t go anywhere.  Every year we celebrate a new year.  Whoopee!

In a couple of days, we’ll close out 2019 and usher in 2020.  Every year has the same benchmarks if we are lucky:  The Super Bowl, Ground Hog Day, St. Paddy’s Day, The Masters Golf, Memorial Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, the World Series, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Then New Year’s Day.  Then do it all over again.

2020 promises to be a big political year.  Impeached Donald Trump, greatest president ever who has done more for the country that all other presidents combined, victim of a hoax witch hunt, will continue to blow twitter gaskets railing against the liberal socialist Democrats and celebrities who don’t kiss his ring.  His base will eat it up.  Congressional Republicans will continue to kowtow. A gaggle of Democrats will vie for the nomination, picking each other off in the debates and polls.  Pundits will continue to click their tongues.  Most Americans will not pay attention to the pundits.  It will be interesting to see if the Democrats can come together around a unified ticket.  As Will Rogers once said: “I don’t belong to any organized political party.  I’m a Democrat.”

Trump’s brand is: “I made America great again, dammit, and you’d better believe it.  Besides, you may not like me but I’m better than those crazy Dems!”  Democrat’s brand: “Vote to save the soul of America, get us moving in the right direction, and beat the crazy man in the White House.”  Which brand will prevail?  Time will tell.

In the meantime, snow is falling.  When it stops it will be time to crank up the snow blower.  I think it is time to wrap this up and be here now.  Ohmmmm…..

  1. Hey Randy – do you have an optimistic scenario to profer for 2020…even if it’s only 49 percent shot.. or 51%?
    – Rock on – We’ll figure out how to handle it, one way or another – Lars

    1. I heard a pundit say there would be a record voter turnout in November, which I assume should favor the donkeys. That is, unless there is wide spread voter suppression, or the Ruskies don’t interfere. So I am mildly optimistic.
