Birthright Nation

Presidents take an oath of office to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. The current president thinks he can repeal the Constitution’s 14thAmendment which guarantees citizenship to persons born here by executive decree.  Or does he?  A week before the mid-term elections it is a cynical ploy to his base that sends a message of toughness against what are called anchor babies born in the U.S.  He seems to believe his obligation is to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution except for the parts he does not like.  What’s next? An executive decree to eliminate the first amendment’s freedom of speech and press?  Maybe an order to repeal the 22ndamendment which would allow him to run for president more than two terms.  His tactics don’t surprise me.  What scares me is knowing there are people in this country that think he can do it. If he wants to amend the Constitution he should follow the Constitutional process on how to do it—passage by Congress, and ratification by 3/4ths of the states.  Or is it 2/3rds?  I’ll have to look it up.
